An update has emerged on the recent tie-ins between WWE and the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) that picked up this month.

The PDC traveled to America at the start of June for the US Darts Masters, and on the day of the tournament, Luke Littler and Peter Wright visited WWE Headquarters to film a video with William Regal and Pretty Deadly, which was posted on WWE’s YouTube channel.

Littler also received a video message from Cody Rhodes, and then proceeded to use Rhodes’ entrance music for his walk-ons throughout the weekend.

WWE’s Regal, along with AEW stars Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta, attended the US Darts Masters together.

WWE showed the aforementioned video with Littler, Wright, Regal and Pretty Deadly during the pre-show for Clash at the Castle this past weekend, although Michael Cole incorrectly referred to the PDC as the “International Darts League”, and said that the “World Championships” were held at Madison Square Garden despite it actually being the US Darts Masters, a World Series event.

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter was asked about the relationship by Phill Barrs of Online Darts, with Barrs asking:

“Some of the tie-ups that you did, and me being a wrestling fan, the link-up with WWE – I don’t think people appreciate how big that is for the sport, because what they do is incredible. And to get a foot in with them must be a very pleasing thing for you.”

Porter replied that it was actually WWE that approached the PDC for the tie-in, not the other way around. He said:

“I think what’s astonishing is when you look at that (WWE), when you look at the New York Jets, when you look at Ariel Helwani’s podcast, they all approached us.

“Don’t get me wrong, we were putting feelers out there and things like that, but they all came to us and said, ‘We know you’re in town, can we do something?’.

“And as you say, people need to understand that isn’t the sort of thing they do to everything that comes to New York.

“So it’s really gratifying to see that we can hit the mainstream in other areas as well.”

Prior to travelling to the US in June, WWE had invited Littler to attend a live event in London in April, but it clashed with a Euro Tour event that Littler was part of in Germany.

Neither Wright nor Littler could be at the aforementioned Clash at the Castle show in Scotland because the Poland Darts Masters was held that weekend in, well, Poland – a tournament that Littler won.

For the Poland Darts Masters, Littler reverted back to his original walk-on music, Greenlight by Pitbull, instead of continuing with Cody Rhodes’ theme.

The choice of Greenlight was actually a WWE reference to begin with, with Littler having attended WrestleMania 33 in 2017 and Greenlight being the theme music for that event.
