Country Roads Trust holds youth football camp – Selambe

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – Despite the very hot weather youth from across the state and region flocked to WVU for the Country Roads Trust football Camp.

This is third annual camp for the NIL organization as Mountaineer football is dedicated to helping the next generation of football players.

“One of the big parts that we do is giving back to the community and hosting camps like this free to the kids,” said GM and Chief Operating Officer Stephen Ford.

“We have kids from seven different states come here for the camp. It is a little hot down here on the field, 100 degrees but we got some athletic trainers helping us out. It’s a fun day and the thing we tell all the kids is listen, stay hydrated, and have fun.”

The camp started Tuesday morning as West Virginia offensive players gave their wisdom and later signed autographs.

“This morning they broke out by age group and then they broke out by different position and the afternoon was the best part of the day because it’s Mountaineer ball,” said Ford.

“It’s a big scrimmage they do that for the last hour and a half all the kids have fun and everybody participates. One thing we are doing this year is special teams you know we got our punter and kicker all out here hosting the special teams parts of the day.”

If your a kid learning the game of football it’s not everyday you learn from power five college talent. Mountaineers Quarterback Garrett Greene loved spending time with the youth Tuesday as Country Roads Trust will continue to holds camps like this in all sports.

“This is kind of what football is all about you know some of my best days you know were playing the game back home with my childhood friends so it’s great to be back home and interact with the youth,” said Greene.

“We’re going to do a Womens camp here in a couple weeks. We’re going to do a Mens Soccer game here at the end of July and then we are going to do a couple basketball camps in July with Mens and Womens but part of what we do is make sure the student athletes are thriving in NIL,” said Ford.
