Bianca Belair And Jade Cargill Lose In Shocking Upset – Selambe

Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill had a chance to dominate the WWE women’s tag team division, but lost their titles to Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn in a shocking upset at Clash at the Castle 2024.

In a jam-packed OVO

Hydro arena in Glasgow, Scotland, Belair and Cargill fell victim to the champions’ disadvantage in a triple threat match. After Belair and Cargill hit their combination finisher on Shayna Baszler, Dawn swooped in and stole the pin. As a result, the Scottish duo of Fyre and Dawn captured their first-ever tag team WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in their home country.

What a shocker that was.

The star-studded duo of Belair and Cargill just won the belts last month at Backlash France when they defeated Damage CTRL to officially kick off their run as the 2024 version of the Mega Powers. Or so we thought.

With Becky Lynch now a free agent and Rhea Ripley currently sidelined with an injury, Belair and Cargill are arguably the two biggest stars in the women’s division right now. That’s what made their involvement in the tag team scene so important for a division that has been snakebitten in its brief history.

It’s no secret that ever since the titles were reintroduced in 2019, they’ve been cursed, mainly due to a slew of injuries consistently interrupting creative plans. Even with duos like Bayley and Sasha Banks or Lynch and Lita holding the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, the titles have never really gotten a fair shake.

Belair and Cargill felt like the perfect duo to change that. Instead, Dawn and Fyre will have the tough task of elevating the women’s tag team belts.

Ironically enough, it seemed that the sheer dominance of the duo of Belair and Cargill—who appear to be virtually unbeatable in one-on-one or standard tag team matches—would help the oft-overlooked tag titles make a resurgence. At Clash at the Castle, WWE had the opportunity to ensure that the titles would feel more important than they have in years.

Especially given that Belair and Cargill have both spoken openly about wanting a dream match against one another, that is the seemingly inevitable conclusion of their storyline, which may be much closer to coming to fruition after their shocking loss in Glasgow.

At a time when WWE could really benefit from the presence of Belair and/or Cargill in the singles scene, however, the creative team appeared to make a major move toward the implosion of Belair and Cargill. That may be a necessary move thanks to the absences of Lynch, Ripley and Charlotte Flair, among others, whose absences have made both the Raw and SmackDown’s women’s divisions paper thin.

In the ideal scenario, WWE will continue forward with a feud between the Belair-Cargill duo and Fyre and Dawn. However, WWE’s shaky history when it comes to booking women’s tag teams means that this surprising title change doesn’t bode well for the future of those titles.

Though Fyre and Dawn are a quality tag team who got quite the homecoming moment in Scotland, their big win may spell long-term doom for the women’s tag team division.
